WHO ARE WE?

The Animal and Plants Protection Society "Pirineos" of Jaca (APAPP) was founded in February of 1992 by eight volunteers. We are a private initiative Asociation without monetary goal, guided by altruism and respect to life, it's opened to every person who wants to help. So, the main goals of this Asociation are:

  • To instil the ideas of respect to animals and plants, as well as the environment.
  • To fight against any kind of animal mistreat.
  • To promote and make people aware of the needing of getting used to practise resposible habbits who help us to end with the huge amount of abandoned animals in our country, such as animal sterilization, adopting abandoned animals (why buying one while another one is waiting for our love?) and thinking twice before taking an animal home
  • Collecting, giving shelter, food and veterinarian help to abandoned animals, as well as finding a new and good home where they are not treated as objects or things.
  • Helping another animal protection societies, Spanish or not, in our common goals of protecting animals and finding new homes for them.

Do you want to play with me?

APAPP was founded 15 years ago, we have collected more than 1300 abandoned dogs (and some cats) which were alone in our city or its surroundings, near rubbish beans,...or some of them have been sadly abandoned at the gate of our refuge by their owners.

Nowadays, we are a group of volunteers which has a certain feeling of respect to animals and environment who with few means, little time and lots of ilusion works daily so that things change little by little. Besides, we will be glad if anyone wants to join us or help in any way.

We are convinced of the needing of protecting the environment, and the benefits that for many families means the decision of sharing their lives with a pet, enjoying responsibly of their joy, company and the loving and loyalty they offer selflessly to adults, children, ancient people, mentally handicapped people....Appart from the needed work they offer to shepherds, blind people, ruescues in mountains or in natural disasters and attacks with explosives.

In the year 2000 there were 79 dogs in our refuge.

Some dogs have been given back to their bosses during the following days after loosing them. In March 2007 we can say that about 550 dogs have bee adopted by families that were looking for a pet, and some of them unfortunately died in our shelter, some of them by natural causes, many others because of the terrible state they were found due to illnesses, injuries, car accidents and malnutrition they couldn't be recovered.

In this moment there are about 50 dogs, as there are new arrivals and new adoptions every week. We hope becoming more people everyday to fight for them.
